September/October Fish Days 2025
Jefferson City, Fulton, Jackson, Herculaneum, Perryville, House Springs, Blue Springs, Columbia North, and Kirksville, Missouri; and Centralia, Sparta, Greenville, and Jacksonville, Illinois, will have Fish Day events.
IMPORTANT: TRANSPORTING YOUR FISH: When hauling your fish, it is very important NOT to use city water, which may contain chlorine. Pond or lake water is the best choice. Large garbage cans or stock tanks are ideal to use when transporting fish. Five-gallon buckets may be used for transporting all species of fish. For the minimum amount of water needed for transporting fish, see the following.
GALLONS OF WATER REQUIRED (PER 100 FISH FOR A 20-MINUTE TRAVEL TIME:) 4-6" Catfish-10 Gallons, Reg. Bluegill-10 Gallons, Crappie-15 Gallons, 6-8" Catfish-20 Gallons, Hybrid Bluegill-10 Gallons, Bass-10 Gallons, 8-10" Catfish-40 Gallons, Red Ear-10 Gallons, Fatheads/Shiners-5 Gallons (per lb of fish).
INTRODUCING FISH TO YOUR POND: If there is a temperature difference of 5 degrees or more between the pond and the water in your hauling container, submerge the hauling container in the pond and slowly exchange water until the temperature of the water in the container is the same as that in the pond. Gradually reducing the temperature difference between the transport water and the pond water will help prevent the fish from dying due to shock.
